Committees & Services
School Advisory Council
To assist Principals and Pastors and to ensure school community involvement, the Diocese recommends that each school establish a School Advisory council. The Board meets quarterly to discuss and envision for the future of the school. Areas of input include finance, policy, physical plant, fundraising, and public relations. The Pastor has final selection the members of the Board with input from the principal and seated Board members. The term of office is two years. A list of Advisory Board members is available in the school office.
Parent Teacher Guild
The Parent Teacher Guild (PTG) exists to provide opportunities for parents to fulfill their God given role as educators and to give mutual support through collaboration with school personnel. The goals of this organization are to support school programming such as the school cultural arts program, field trips, support the purchase of ancillary materials, assist with social functions, and provide home experiences that compliment, reinforce and extend the formal instruction of the school. The PTG works from a yearly budget approved by the membership.
STM Athletic Association
The Athletic Association oversees and funds the sports and cheerleading groups and activities of the school and is considered part of the Parish Athletic Association. This appointed body is comprised of parish members, school family members and ex-officio members.
Student Services
Allegheny Intermediate Unit Services
Each Catholic school within the diocese is located within the jurisdiction of an Intermediate Unit. The implementation of certain government programs for non-public schools is the responsibility of the local Intermediate Unit. St. Thomas More School is located in Intermediate Unit #3. St. Thomas More School receives services in many areas. They include:
• Remedial reading and mathematics instruction
• School counselor services
• Psychological services through Equitable Participation
• Crisis intervention
• Speech and language
A professionallly trained and accredited pathologist, teacher, or psychologist carries out each service under the supervision of an Intermediate Unit administrator. In addition, teachers and administrators in non-public schools attend in-service training in instructional areas and administrative areas offered through the local IU.
