St. Thomas More School encourages full and accurate communication throughout the school community. In order for this to be accomplished, a climate of trust and respect must exist among and between school community members. Parents who wish to discuss their child’s academic progress should first contact the teacher directly involved by requesting a personal or phone conference. Teachers will then contact the parent and schedule a mutually convenient conference time. After conferencing with their child’s teacher, parents may contact the school principal for further review, for clarification or for intervention.
The following communication behaviors foster a secure climate and subsequently promote positive community development:
• Be honest by making open statements about your feelings, attitudes and
reactions to situations.
• Be tactful and sensitive to the peoples needs, feelings, and problems;
• Treat people in a non threatening manner.
• Accept people as they are by respecting individual differences, opinions,
perceptions and approaches.
• Have a positive approach and outlook when you greet and interact with people;
• Avoid gossip, innuendo and negativity about STM and members of its community.
St. Thomas More School communicates weekly with school families through the Tiger Tales Newsletter. We ask that families provide the school with an email address so that Tiger Tales can be distributed electronically.
