Emergencies and Extended Day

Emergency Cards
At the beginning of each school year, parents or guardians are required to complete 2 student emergency cards for each child in the family attending St. Thomas More School. It is imperative that the school be able to reach parents/guardians to inform them of illness or an emergency situation. Each family must list the names of others who can be contacted should the parent/guardian be unavailable. Please keep the card information updated by informing the office.

Extended Care
St. Thomas More School offers before and after school programs for parents who need child care. This service is available on a daily, weekly or yearly basis. Parents should complete the purple STM information form provided and return it to the homeroom classroom.

Discipline
St. Thomas More School Extended Day Program follows the same disciplinary guidelines that are outlined in the school handbook. Discipline at the Extended Day Program is considered an aspect of moral guidance. The purpose of the discipline is a) to promote responsible student behavior, b) to promote an environment conducive to constructive play and learning, c) to increase respect for duly constituted authority and for peers. Students are expected to:
  •  Behave respectfully and courteously toward all teachers, adults, and students.
  •  Participate positively and be attentive to instructions.
  •  Respect school property, including books, toys, furniture, the interior and exterior of
the school, bathrooms, and athletic equipment.

Extended Day staff and school staff will conference with students who violate the rules. Parents will be notified of infractions. Continual violations will result in time-out, behavior notices, a student being sent home, and/or dismissal from the program.

Health and Safety
Parents are required to keep the staff notified of any address or telephone number changes; this is for the safety of your child. If a child has a minor injury, the Extended Day staff will administer first aid. Parents will be notified when they pick up the child. If the injury is more serious, attempts will be made to reach the parent. If the parent can not be reached, the Extended Day staff will call the person(s) listed on the registration form. For all suspected serious back and neck injuries and for serious accidents or illness, the staff will contact the local Ambulance Company by calling 911.
